Harrison Ward Wicks is an emerging jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist whose artistry bridges technical mastery with bold creative expression. Currently pursuing a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Maine, Harrison is quickly building a reputation as one of the most promising young voices in contemporary jazz, celebrated for his expressive trombone performances and fearless approach to improvisation.
While the trombone remains his primary instrument, Harrison’s fluency on piano and guitar allows him to explore composition and arrangement from multiple perspectives. His versatility, relentless dedication, and collaborative spirit make him a dynamic presence in the evolving landscape of modern jazz performance and composition.
A proud native of Lewistown, Montana, Harrison’s musical foundation was shaped through years of study and performance in both school and community ensembles. At Fergus High School, he played key roles in the Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Symphonic Band, earning superior ratings at Montana’s State Music Festival in 2024 and 2025 for both solo and ensemble performances, including standout renditions of Andante et Allegro by J.E. Barat.
Beyond the classroom, Harrison has performed with the Snowy Mountain Big Band and the innovative group OH, showcasing his talent on stages across Montana and beyond — from the Centerfest Music Festival (voted Montana’s Best Music Festival 2024 & 2025) and the Lewistown School of Music, to New York City’s prestigious Jazz Arts Collective.
Now continuing his musical journey at the University of Maine, Harrison is expanding his expertise in jazz theory, composition, and performance, preparing for a professional career as a performer, arranger, and recording artist. With his combination of technical precision, heartfelt emotion, and creative curiosity, Harrison Ward Wicks stands out as a rising jazz talent to watch.
